drp57 on Monday 01 September 2008 - 21:48:38 Wanting to reform the world without discovering one's true self is like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes.

drp57 on Sunday 24 August 2008 - 13:25:23 The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, 'Hello.....Mrs. Ward, please'. 'Speaking'.
'Mrs. Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory.
When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's.
Frankly the results are either bad or terrible'.
'What do you mean?' Mrs. Ward asks nervously.
'Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one tested positive for AIDS. We can't tell which is your husband's'.
'That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?' questioned Mrs. Ward.
'Normally we can, but Medicare will only pay for these expensive tests one time.'
'Well, what am I supposed to do now?'
'The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him.'

If we are in the program on a basis of 'temporary permanence' (we'll stay until we find something better), then we need to re-evaluate. Addiction is cunning, baffling, and powerful and will always convince us it's better than sobriety. We can only make this program if we commit ourselves each day, every day.
This hour I will not take a fix, pill, drink, smoke, or snort of any mind-affecting chemical.
drp57 on Tuesday 19 August 2008 - 10:48:05 A man and a friend are playing golf one day at their local golf course. One of the guys is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer.
His friend says: “Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man.”
The man then replies: “Yeah, well we were married 35 years.”

drp57 on Tuesday 12 August 2008 - 11:20:55 I don't think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains.
--Anne Frank
We don't find the rewards of today by searching through our misfortunes. Pausing to seek out something good for everything we find bad is a step in the right direction. We may find the good outweighs the bad.
But how much more chance we will have of living a happy day if we skip over our setbacks and concentrate as much as we can on what is going well. It is smarter to look for diamonds in a diamond mine than in a garbage dump.
Let us discard our failures, using only what we have learned from them to achieve success. Looking back at missed opportunities will make it impossible for us to recognize new chances to enjoy life to the fullest. Looking only for beauty is a beautiful thing in itself.
What beauty can I see around me right now?
drp57 on Tuesday 12 August 2008 - 11:15:55 A drunk walks into a bar, sits down and demands a drink.
"Get out" says the bartender. "I don't serve drunks here".
The drunk staggers out the front door, only to come back in through the side door. He sits at the bar, bangs his fist and demands a drink.
"I just told you to get out, didn't I? Now LEAVE!".
The drunk gets off his stool, stumbles out the side door and, comes back inside through the back door. Once again, he sits at the bar and loudly asks for a drink.
The bartender, now glowing mad, looks at the drunk and yells "I TOLD YOU, NO DRUNKS ALLOWED, NOW GET OUT!!!".
The drunk looks up at the bartender and slurs "How many bars do you work at, anyway?".

drp57 on Monday 11 August 2008 - 11:42:10 A womans Prayer January 24. 2007
A Woman's Prayer
DEAR LORD:
SO FAR TODAY, I AM DOING ALL RIGHT. I HAVE NOT GOSSIPED, LOST MY TEMPER, BEEN GREEDY, GRUMPY, NASTY, SELFISH OR SELF INDULGENT I HAVE NOT WHINED, CURSED OR EATEN ANY CHOCOLATE.
HOWEVER, I AM GOING TO GET OUT OF BED IN A FEW MINUTES AND I WILL NEED A LOT MORE HELP AFTER THAT.
AMEN.
drp57 on Monday 11 August 2008 - 11:24:28 God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next.
Amen. --Reinhold Niebuhr
